Each child will have their name on their helmet and they will be responsible for that helmet. For families interested attending multiple weeks of camp or looking to make a long term investment, we do have new certified helmets available for sale on site for $150.00 taxes included. Horses & Riding
We want your child to have a fun camp experience that you can feel comfortable about as well. With a fun-filled daily itinerary and a dedication to safety, our camp counselors are experienced in teaching children the joy of learning in a safe environment that emphasizes cooperation and respect of each other and the animals alike. Our riding instructors are accomplished riders and equestrians themselves and are excited to share their knowledge!
Daily riding is a favorite part of each camper’s experience. Children receive individual attention aimed at their personal ability level, and participate in group rides where they learn by watching and helping others. During horseback riding, staff to camper ratio is 1:5. To allow for individual attention and instruction we also have non staff assistance. In addition to riding once a day, campers groom and saddle the horses to allow for more bonding time with their equine friend. Horse theory is taught daily. Topics such as what horses eat, how to tell if a horse is sick, how to look after your own horse, and movements of the horse. The staff at Conestogo River Horseback Adventures will show your child the unique and beautiful relationship between horse and rider. We strive to give children the confidence and self-esteem that comes from riding and handling horses and ponies alike with thoughtfulness and respect.
Crafts are a much loved part of every day. They change daily and range from friendship bracelets to share with new camp friends, frames for a picture of their favorite horse, stamps, fun foam, leather crafting key chains etc., the sky is the limit! Supplies are included in the camp fee. If we are doing tie die, we may ask for items contributed.
Games feature both on and off horse games to keep children interested and entertained. Children participate in games such as Red Light, Green Light, poles and obstacle courses that get more challenging as the week goes on.
Safety! Any person under the age of 18 is not permitted on a horse without proper certified headgear! Helmets are provided by Conestogo River Horseback Adventures for a fee if they don’t have their own. Families must supply their own footwear with a 1/2 to 1 inch heel like a hiking boot or rubber boot or your local equestrian tack shop will have riding boots and helmets, and long pants. NO sandals please around the horses! Only closed-toe footwear permitted to protect little toes! Children are never left unsupervised with horses and precautions are taken to make sure everyone has fun without getting hurt! It is required to pack both riding clothes & summer type cool clothes. The kids do get dirty so nothing too precious! Oh & pack more water and snacks then you think could possibly be need!
