- What age do lessons start?
- All our lesson programs start at age 7. For horse loving little ones, we recommend our Mother Goose Farm Club.
- How soon can I start lessons?
- We run our lesson program 7 days a week, from 4-9pm on weekdays and 9am-2pm on weekends. As our program is very popular, there is typically a minimum 2 month wait for an available space. If you’d like to join our program, please email us and we can get you on the waitlist.
- What will I learn in my first lessons?
- In your first classes you will learn basic horsemanship, how to safely interact around horses, how to prepare your horse for your lesson, balance, control and steering. As you become more comfortable with riding, the coaches will increase the difficulty of skills to challenge you and improve your abilities.
- How long does it take to become good at riding?
- It varies by individual, as some people pick up riding skills faster than others. The longer you ride the more you can learn and challenge yourself. On average, it takes 6-12 months of regular lessons to be able to canter and jump safely.
- What happens if it’s raining/snowing?
- Thanks to our covered arena, lessons run rain or shine! If the forecast is calling for inclement weather (severe thunderstorms/freezing rain/blizzard) and the coaches determine it is unsafe for lessons, we will call you with as much advance notice as possible, and reschedule lessons for a later date.
- What if I need to miss a class?
- We have designated make-up classes built into every month in the event you need to rebook a class. These are usually the 29th, 30th and 31st of every month. We require 24 hours notice for a missed lesson to qualify for a make-up class. To schedule a make-up class, please email the office to discuss schedule availability. Last minute cancellations will be counted as no-shows and will not be eligible for make-up classes.
- What clothing is needed/recommended for a riding lesson?
- Beginners can start out with flexible pants, a comfortable t-shirt, polo or sports top, and boots with a half to one inch heel. More advanced riders can choose to buy sport specific attire, including riding boots, half chaps, and riding pants or breeches. For more detailed information, please see our Horseback Riding Lessons page.
- Do I need a helmet for riding lessons?
- Students of all ages require a helmet for lessons. You are welcome to borrow one of our helmets for your first 5 classes, or if you have a ski/snowboard/hockey helmet that covers the back of the head you are welcome to use that. Once you’re ready to purchase your own helmet, check out our Horseback Riding Lessons page for local tack shop recommendations.
